Hometown hero Nikita Johnson secures first Indy NXT victory

Nikita Johnson secures his first Indy NXT victory at his home track. Starting from second place Johnson made a huge dive into the first turn on Max Taylor and Johnson never looked back leading every lap in a race mired by multiple crashes. The cautions seemed to be Taylor’s only chance at catching Johnson but Johnson was so quick on the restarts and ultimately he was untouchable. The race did not make the scheduled 45 laps instead 55 minutes due to four full course yellows that made a race a time crunch. This is Johnson’s first full season and what a way to establish himself as a winner in the series.

Race 1 podium:

  1. Nikita Johnson

  2. Max Taylor

  3. Tymek Kucharczyk
