Yelloly leads the way in opening practice

Nick Yelloly leads the way for a Acura MSR 1-2 in the opening WeatherTech practice of the weekend. Yelloly layed down a 1:51.008 in the 90 minute session, Yelloly’s lap was 0.697 seconds quicker than teammate Tom Blomqvist. The two Acuras were more than 1.1 seconds quicker than third place Louis Deletraz aboard the number 40 WTR Cadillac. Deletraz layed down a 1:52.131. Laurin Heinrich in the JDC Miller Motorsports Porsche 963 finished out the session in fourth and rounding out the top five in GTP was the number 10 WTR Cadillac of Filipe Albuquerque. Ross Gunn aboard his Aston Martin Valkyrie brought out the session’s only red flag where he went off at Canada corner. It appeared no significant contact with the barriers. The team will lose its fastest time in qualifying. In LMP2 the number 22 United AutoSports led the way Paul Di Resta was nearly three tenths up on second place Dane Cameron aboard the 99 Spike the Dragon. Rounding out the top three was the number 2 United AutoSports of Mikkel Jenson. In GTD Pro Thomas Preining led the way in the 911 Grello Manthey entry. The Austrian layed down a time of 2:05.384 it was 0.0034 seconds quicker Riccardo Agonstini aboard the 033 Triarsi Ferrari. GTD class honors went to the 068 YRB Racing Aston Martin of Valentine Hasse Clot. The only notable incident in the GT class was the 023 Triarsi Ferrari of Robert Megennis stopped on track due to a collapsed right rear suspension. Practice 2 is on tap tomorrow morning at 9:55am central time.
