WinWard Racing secured its third Rolex 24 class victory

WinWard Racing today secures its third GTD class victory at the Rolex 24. Phillip Ellis led the 57 to victory in the final hour over a frantic battle between the Magnus Aston Martin driven by Nikki Thiim. This battle raged for the final hour seeing both drivers make contact and battle it out for the class victory. But as it raged on it seemed the Mercedes just appeared to have the advantage over the Aston Martin. Mercedes made its time up on high speed while the Aston made it up in the brake zones. Two Astons finished on the podium with the pole sitting Heart of Racing claiming the third position. The top five was finished by the 13 AWA corvette the Turner BMW brought it home fourth and rounding out the top five was the 21 AF Corse Ferrari that showed a lot of pace in the beginning parts of the race. Four cars did not finish in the GTD class. Both Mustangs of Riley and Gradient failed to finish. Gradient due to a radiator leak and Riley due to a drive shaft. The Wright Motorsports Porsche and RS1 were both due to crash damage.
