Turner Motorsports wins a caution filled Road America race

Turner Motorsports pairing of Robby Foley and Justin Rothberg gain there second victory in the last three races of GT World Challenge America at Road America. Foley took the no.29 BMW to a 4.363 second victory over the points leading no.34 JMF Mercedes of Mikael Grenier following a final hour green flag run. The BMW factory driver passed Grenier for the effective lead on the race’s fourth and final restart with just under an hour remaining. With this victory it had put the reigning pro-am class champions within four points of the pro class heading into next month’s penultimate round at Barber Motorsports Park. A suspected engine issue for the Am class leading no.163 AF Corse Ferrari of Benny Simonsen which stopped on course brought out the races final full course yellow. The overall pole sitter no.12 AF Corse Ferrari of Miguel Molina and Matias Perez Compac who led early amid multiple full course yellows dropped out with a suspected engine failure in the second hour. This came after a massive four car accident at the Kink triggered by the no.14 Riley Motorsports BMW of Slade Stewart, which got into the rear of the no.13 KellyMoss Porsche of Todd Parriott and collected pro-am championship leading no.32 GMG Racing of Kyle Washington, Parriott’s teammate Michael Clark, as well as the Rebel Rock Racing Aston Martin of Frank DePew. All four drivers were reported to climb from there vehicles but led to a 30 minute safety car period. The long yellow led to several different pit strategies as the race unfolded. Pro-am honors went to the TR3 Racing Mercedes as they took a breakthrough victory with Daniel Morad and Brayton Williams. Morad and second place finisher in class Jan Heylen aboard his RS1 Porsche had a titanic battle through the final portions of the race. Wright Motorsports Ryan Yardley and Dave Musial went on to finish third in class. The race ending issues of the no.163 AF Corse Ferrari handed the am class honors to debutants Green and Jon Morley aboard no.67 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari.
