Rafa Racing sweeps Indy as RS1 takes Silver class title
The Rafa Racing duo of Westin Workman and Tyler Gonzalez leave Indianapolis as winners of both races but ultimately come up 1 point short in the title battle as the RS1 duo of Luca Mars and Spencer Pumpelly clinch the title. Workman took his no.68 Rafa Racing Toyota Supra to a 4.389 second victory over the no.7 ACI Motorsports entered Porsche of Yves Baltas. Workman and Gonzalez headed into the final race of the championship in a must win scenario who trailed RS1 by 18 points. The championship seemed possible to the duo as early in the race when Mars sustained left front wheel damage in an opening lap incident triggered by the sister Rafa Racing entry of Werner Neugbauer who received a drive through penalty for incident responsibility. The other two Silver class cars of the no.130 Adavnce Motorsports McLaren of Austin Jurs and the no.98 Random Vandals BMW of Bruno Colombo were also involved in the incident and retired from the race alongside Mars who had his pit box further up the road. With the no.007 CSM Aston Martin invisible on points as a one off entry, Pumpelly and Mars seventh place class finish turned into a sixth place finish which was enough for the RS1 team to win the Silver class title by a single point over Rafa Racing. Pro-Am class honors went to the Dome Motorsports Mercedes of Allen Patten and Marc Miller following a late race pass on the NolaSport Porsche of Matt Travis. This came after the no.33 Backdog Racing McLaren of Michael Cooper who held the overall race lead in the opening stint was given two separate five second time penalties. Sam Craven and Kenton Koch aboard there Random Vandals BMW clinched the Pro-Am title. In the AM class Dome Motorsports Laura Hays claimed victory as a solo driver, a second place finish for the TechSport duo of Frankie Muniz and Tyler Stone meant it was enough for them to clinch there first championship together with the MMR Mustang of Zachary Lee and Carlton Macfarlane completing the podium.
