Penske exploring possible WEC return with Cadillac

Team Penske is right now exploring options for a possible return to the FIA WEC championship in the Hypercar class with Cadillac. This has been confirmed through multiple sources. Roger Penske last competed in the series between 2023-2025 as the factory Porsche 963 program. It has been known that Roger Penske has been looking for a way to fight for overall honors at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The team has been linked to Cadillac with the team looking to operate one V-Series.R privately alongside the Hertz Team Jota team. This would add a second privately funded car to the class alongside the already existing AF Corse Ferrari 499p entry, this would also allow the FIA WEC Hypercar World Cup for privateer entries to return. Currently the WEC grid would have the room for a single Penske Cadillac as soon as 2027, although the program likely wouldn’t take place until 2028. The current field is 35 cars and the maximum grid size is believed to be 40 cars, would reach 39 with the return of Signatech’s A424 and Ford and McLaren entries debuting next season.
