Heinrich and Vanthoor swap ahead of 2027 season

Porsche Penske Motorsports announced today a swap in drivers ahead of the 2027 IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship season. Current endurance only driver with the Penske team Laurin Heinrich will move over to the factory team for the full 2027 season. This comes off the heels of Heinrich helping JDC secure its first overall victory with a privately entered Porsche 963. While Laurens Vanthoor is stepping back to an endurance only role for 2027. While Vanthoor who will remain under a Porsche contract next year it sounds like he will likely be loaned out. It sounds like to be British manufacturer McLaren with an announcement possibly coming this week. Vanthoor alongside Kevin Estre made the switch to full time IMSA competition after Porsche decided to end its WEC program at the end of the 2025 season. While we could see the same loan deal with Kevin Estre as he could be loaned out to Toyota.
