GMG wins Indy 8 Hour, Martin wins IGTC title
8 Hours of racing comes to a close at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway seeing the German manufacturer win at 8 hour endurance race for the first time. GMG Racing a car entered in the Pro-Am class walks away with the outright victory. Ayhancan Guven, Riccardo Pera, Kyle Washington helped Porsche win the manufacturer’s title. Guven drove the no.32 Pro-Am entered Porsche to a 56.209 second victory, marking a landmark victory for the James Sofronas led organization and giving Kyle Washington the Pro-Am class championship. Turner Motorsports was able to grab the Pro-Class championship with Robby Foley and Justin Rothberg and class victory being joined by Connor De Phillippi. This was thanks to a very gutsy pass by Foley in the final hour over the no.12 AF Corse Ferrari of Frederik Schandorff. The GMG Porsche went on an alternate strategy just before halfway that saw the team back time to the remainder of the race. This also marked the first time a Pro-Am car won overall. The no.34 JMF Mercedes of Michai Stevens and Mikael Grenier entered the race with the Pro-class lead finished fifth overall and third in class. It was still good enough for Maxime Martin to achieve his first IGTC drivers title. The no.69 Archangel McLaren came home in second overall thanks to a courageous final stint from Tom Fleming. The no.31 Wright Motorsports entered Porsche with factory ace Laurin Heinrich comes home third in class. AF Corse’s Benny Simonsen, Ozz Negri, and Jay Schreibman were able to inherit the AM class honors after the no.11 Mad Jokser Racing Mercedes has handed a time penalty equivalent to a drive through for contact with the no.120 Porsche of Kevin Estre. The race saw three retirements and the final five hours and 39 minutes of the race ran caution free.
