Felix Rosenqvist the fast Swede has won the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500 after a thrilling shootout with Team Penske’s David Malukas. The 110th running will go down in history with the closest finish ever in the race’s 110 year history. Rosenqvist beat Malukas by a margin of 0.0233 seconds at the line. Rosenqvist ran inside the top 10 all day, he was among many drivers to switch to the alternate strategy. The teammates of MSR and Pato o Ward were three drivers that made the alternate strategy work. When the green flag dropped at the beginning of the race both Alexander Rossi and Alex Palou pulled out a marginal gap both swapping places lap by lap in the beginning stint. They were followed closely by the Penske cars and Conor Daly. The first caution came out on lap 18 for a spinning Ryan Hunter Reay that collected Katherine Legge ending both of there days. Once the race resumed it soon was back under yellow for Ed Carpenter ending up in the turn 1 wall. Just after halfway the race was halted due to a passing by shower while the red flag only lasted 12 minutes with Scott Dixon leading at the time. Race winning contender Josef Newgarden went to low in turn 4 sending his car into the outside wall eliminating his chances at a fourth 500 win. The green flag waved again at lap 132 with Daly making a bold move on Palou and Malukas sending him to the front of the field. At this point Rosenqvist and O Ward’s alternate strategies were putting themselves in prime position with making one fewer stop compared to the front runners. With 18 to Rosenqvist took the lead away from O Ward and was pulling out a gap gaining a tow off of the lapped car of Mick Schumacher. With 8 to go the caution flew over the speedway again for rookie Caio Collet having a hard crash which caused a red flag. The race resumed with 5 laps to go with Marcus Armstrong making a charging move from third to first then caution struck for Mick Schumacher making contact with the wall in turn 2 bringing out the final caution of the race. Unfortunately for Armstrong on the restart he was simply a sitting duck as Malukas charged to the lead with teammates battling for second. Rosenqvist cleared his teammate on the exit for turn 4 which allowed him to get a monster draft on Malukas, as Rosenqvist leaves his mark on history as a champion of the Indy 500.
